In addition to touring and performing Jim has been heavily involved in Jazz and Music Education since 1998. He currently teaches Saxophone 1-1 and leads ensembles at Leeds College of Music (LCoM), one of the UK's leading conservatoires, and has been teaching at LCoM for 10 years on their BA Hons Music (Jazz and Pop) degree courses as a Principal Lecturer. He has also recently been appointed Saxophone Tutor for Hull University for there BA Music course.

He also teaches Saxophone for Leeds University and also for the Universities of York and Sheffield and has also taught at Bradfrod Girls Grammer school and Harrogate Grammer school.

He is available for private one to one tuition for intermediate through to advanced students seeking to enhance, explore and advance their jazz improvisation, performance skills, confidence, listening, jazz /chordscale theory, rhythmic concepts and repertoire development. Other common areas Jim also works on with students are technique (sound production, embouchure, mouthpiece/reeds choice and setup, fingering, altisimo and intonation). Prices per hour vary depending on students individual requirments and lessons can be delivered in half hour sessions ranging up to two hour lessons.

As a working saxophonist, composer and bandleader Jim also conducts dynamic workshops, master classes and clinics to students of all ages and levels and coaches various sized ensembles throughout the UK.

Jim was nominated and shortlisted for "Jazz Educator of the Year 2011" at the 2012 Jazz Yorkshire awards.
